The WHOIS tab is available at /whois/<domain>. The route
keeps the legacy WHOIS name for compatibility, but StatsDen tries RDAP first
for domain registration data.
RDAP-first results
When RDAP returns a registered domain object, StatsDen shows structured registration sections such as summary fields, domain statuses, events, nameservers, contacts, and notices.
No registration record
If RDAP returns no active domain object, StatsDen shows a no-registration-record result with a caveat. That result does not guarantee the domain can be registered; registries and registrars may still block registration.
WHOIS fallback
Legacy WHOIS is used when RDAP errors or is not advertised for the TLD. Unsupported RDAP is treated as a normal fallback state, not as a registration failure.
Cached responses
StatsDen caches raw RDAP responses and WHOIS text so normal page refreshes can reuse a recent lookup instead of contacting third-party services every time. Registered RDAP records and successful WHOIS text are reused for up to seven days, no-registration-record responses for up to six hours, rate-limit and error responses for up to fifteen minutes, and unsupported RDAP states for up to thirty days.
Staff and admin users can bypass this cache by adding
?refresh=1 to the WHOIS/RDAP URL.
Homoglyph warning
The WHOIS tab also checks for common Unicode lookalikes, including punycode input. A warning appears when a domain may visually impersonate an ASCII domain.
